hitherto some [late] notes on Toradora and Ami

Xebek: [Ami is], definitely, from what I’ve seen, a fan favorite. Ami has actually really surprised me. When she was first introduced I disliked her, the whole lying about who she was kind of irked me. However these two episodes of the beach villa arc kind of made me change my mind. Her talk about how Ryuji wasn’t fit for Minori kind of had a point. I did seem to realize that the two of them, Ryuji and Ami, are somewhat fit together. She seems to confide her complex personal emotions in him, and while although teasing a lot, is honest in many ways.

metan0rn: I’m really starting to like Ami because she’s really becoming more natural. Plus I really pitied her [in ep. 10]. She actually got me liking her the past two eps and even though it’s a “Minori-scaring-101″ episode, I felt that she was also given a spotlight. And I don’t really know if she’s still teasing Ryuuji for the sake of teasing only -_-… AND OMG how I love her “sun and moon” metaphor tackling about equality!!! Ami totally gained some respect from me

53RG10: Since [Ami's] appearance, she has been ‘playing around’ with Ryuuji…an effort just to make Taiga mad…or at least that’s what people concluded. But maybe she was playing around Ryuuji because she has feelings for him. She can’t really show her true emotions, so maybe she put up that playful mask to try to get near him? Tsundere quality? I would say so. Her playing around with him is the same as putting up a strong front…you can say it’s reverse psychology. By acting like she is just playing and teasing him, you can say she’s putting up a front to hide her feelings…which she is not able to properly convey.

Kurogane: [ep, 10] turned out to be more of an Ami episode than anything. I love how the director is intentionally making her real feelings being vague. It kinda evokes a certain amount of pathos in me towards her. Is she actually teasing Ryuuji just for the sake of teasing him? Or has she really fallen for him? The conversation with Ryuuji about being “equals” also was a masterful touch of almost touching her real feelings but not quite there yet. The use of metaphors in this series is seriously winning me over.

Crusader: Even if Ami is not the nicest person of the year at least she boasts something that is sorely lacking within the typical haremette, intelligence and the willingness to use it. Ami-chan is clever and cunning, and that makes her my kind of scum. Ami might be a bitch, but the same can be said of Taiga. Taiga certainly could do with a lot more tact when she interacts with people and definitely could do more to quell her outbursts. More often or not we wear masks when we go out in public, there ought to be no displeasure that Ami is more than capable of doing the same.

I dunno…standard route would be Taiga. Standard Route with Flare is Taiga after some Ami drama and various acts of Third Party Intervention. In any case I hope this ends up a process show more so than a product one. Whoever we end up with, such a conclusion won’t be easily reached, but when it does come around, will people really focus on Ryuuji’s conclusive lover or how he [we] got there? Aforementioned comments suggest process approach reigns.
