collected notes on White Album 08

usagijen: One hackneyed phrase I often hear when people talk about romance-themed series is that it’s either “realistic” or “unrealistic”. …It sounds like a broken record now, a meme more than anything, especially when the “realism” and “unrealism” mentioned isn’t even expounded on.

Richie (hey say anime):

Ratings: Out of 5.
Main Plot Development:

We learn about a rivalry between two companies, and a possible Rina becoming a “devil”. Maybe she would do it again, maybe not. Still, not a lot is known about the main plot except Touya just being stressed with all the girls he’s helping out.
Character Development:

Oh boy, we’ve learned more about the Ogata siblings and their history, about Mana Mizuki & Haruka Kawashima. Good enough for me.
Love? Love?:
3
I wasn’t feeling it. Sure, Haruka’s love is the bes you can possibly get (maybe Misaki’s & Mana’s too…), but nothing else had astounded me in this episode. …I don’t like Yayoi’s so much, but she’s sneaky. Geez.
Excited for the Next Episode? YES / NO

deathkillz (anime history): In a way I do feel sorry for Touya firstly since he is being cornered and pressured by this nutcase to give up on Yuki and secondly because he doesn’t know the full truth behind Eiji’s persistance nor his motives for doing so.

animewriter (crystal tokyo): Rina’s talk with Touya cleared up many questions I’ve been having about the whole Eiji/Rina/Yuki relationship like; what does Eiji see in Yuki, what’s the deal between Eiji and Rina? When Rina explained to Touya that Eiji quit performing because he knew he reached his peak and could not see any further growth he then decided to perfect Rina, and it made me understand why he now wants the flawed Yuki. When Rina performed in the studio, both Touya and Eiji understood that her execution of the song was flawless, Eiji said that there was no reason for him to be there. So, without having [an] untrained product (Yuki) to work with, Eiji has no purpose or meaning to his life. If only Yuki could see her future, she’s nothing but a pet project for Eiji, nothing more, when he gets her to where he wants her, she’ll be put aside just like Rina.

Check the end of this post out, it has a neat “superlatives” part where the author goes over the +/-’s of each girl.

crusader: All in all I can see this fail train speeding up. …I wished Misaki had killed herself with fire after falling asleep the way she did. … I hope Yayoi gets pregnant Misaki can cute her open with a wooden knife.

Classic crusader lol post.

omni: After all that distance between Yuki and Touya and the silence when they finally did meet by accident, I don’t really see them as a couple anymore, and Touya unconsciously or not probably realized something similar.

Hanners: If Touya’s actions throughout White Album thus far have left you in any doubt as to whether or not the guy is an asshole, then I present to you exhibit AAA, aka episode eight of this series, which demonstrates a level of utterly despicable beyond compare.

nazarielle: The most interesting part this week, of course, was Rina-chan showing a bit more of her deeper personality. Poor girl got cast away by her beloved onii-chan. It’s too bad your brother wasn’t a siscon, Rina.

psgels: Whoa, so many things happened in this episode, and yet it felt like a really quiet and slow-paced one. …My only problem is that this series the umpth one that is overplaying the “dead parents” trope a bit too much.

xebek: Honestly at this point I’m just hoping Touya ends up alone. …I still predict Touya will end up with Yuki after some disaster happens. Honestly this is one series where I’m not really rooting for anyone. Maybe I’m just rooting for Rina who I like the most to stay away from the coming disaster.
